Creating reports to analyze related resources and their efforts

You can create reports using the ITPA_Project Resource Task iCube to derive insights into the number of resources assigned to projects and analyze their allocated and actual efforts. The reports enable Portfolio Managers to filter resource data based on specific projects and understand if allocated resources are being utilized efficiently.

Perform the following steps in the Portfolio Overview dashboard that you have created as part of the Creating KPIs to analyze Portfolio costs, Creating a report to analyze variances in portfolios, and Creating a report to analyze project variances tasks:

  1. Click the icon from the toolbar and select Existing Dataset....
  2. In the Select Existing Dataset dialog box, navigate to the required ITPA folder and select ITPA_Project Resource Task.
  3. Click Select.

    The ITPA_Project Resource Task iCube is added to the DATASETS panel:

  4. Click the Insert visualization icon from the toolbar to insert a blank visualization.

    Tip: To change the position of the visualization, drag the visualization title bar and place it in the required position.

  5. Perform the following steps from the DATASETS panel:
    1. From the ITPA_Project Resource Task iCube , drag the Top Project and Project attributes into the Rows field of the Editor panel.
    2. Drag the No. of Resources metric into the Metrics field of the Editor panel.
  6. To filter the data that is displayed in this report, perform the following steps from the Project Distribution by Cost and Schedule Variance report created as part of the Creating a report to analyze project variances task:
    1. Click the icon in the visualization title bar and then click Use As Filter....
    2. In the Filtering Options dialog box, select the report that you created as part of this task, and then click OK.

      This enables you to view resources related to a specific Top Project that is selected from the Project Distribution by Cost and Schedule Variance report.

  7. Click the Insert visualization icon from the toolbar to insert a blank visualization.
  8. Select the blank visualization and click the Bar Chart visualization type.
  9. Perform the following steps from the DATASETS panel:
    1. From the ITPA_Project Resource Task iCube, drag the Resource attribute into the Vertical field of the Editor panel.
    2. Drag the Resource Allocated Hours and Resource Actual Hours metrics into the Horizontal field of the Editor panel.
    3. Drag the Metric Names label into the Color By field of the Editor panel.
  10. Repeat step 6 to filter the data in this report using the # of Resources by Top Project report that you created earlier.
