Work Item Burn Up Chart

Project Managers, across functions, often use two types of charts to track the progress of their projects. One is the burn down chart which shows how much work is remaining at the end of a sprint; and the other one is the burn up chart which shows how much work was completed in a given sprint.

Work Item Burn Up Chart enables Project Managers to see the progress across all scrum teams contributing to a large software release using the format of a scaled agile "burn up chart". This helps them better track the delivery of value completed by the Agile Release Train. The chart can be used to infer progress of a project that spans across multiple sprints.

The Burn Up Chart helps Project Managers and teams answer the following business questions:

• How many Work Items or Story Points did we complete across each month?
• How much business value points has the team delivered until now?
• Has there been a reduction in the number of backlog work items?

You can use the Project filter in the dashboard to view information pertaining to specific projects.

The Work Item Burn Up Chart dashboard consists of following chapters:

• Work Item Burn up
• Story Points Burn up
• Business Value Burn up

Work Item Burn up

The Work Item Burn Up Chart provides information about the progress of a project over time with respect to work item. You can view the monthly trend of completed and backlog work items that helps you understand the amount of work that was accomplished and if the project is on track to be completed.

The Work Item Burn up chapter contains the following sections:

• Monthly Work Item Burn Up Chart: Displays three line graphs to indicate the number of work items that were completed in a given month, number of work items that remained in the backlog at the end of a month, and a snapshot of the cumulative number of work items completed up to a particular month.

  The nodes in the line graphs denote individual months and you can click on a node to drill down and display only relevant data in the subsequent sections.

• Backlog Work Items: Displays a list of work items that remain in the backlog along with the priority and a brief summary about the work item.
• Completed Work Items: Displays the total work items that are completed along with the priority and a brief summary about the work item.

Story Points Burn up

The Story Points Burn Up Chart provides information about the progress of a project over time with respect to Story Points associated with Work Items. You can view the monthly trend of completed and backlog story points that helps you understand the amount of work that was accomplished and if the project is on track to be completed.

The Story Points Burn up chapter contains the following sections:

• Monthly Story Points Burn Up Chart: Displays three line graphs to indicate the number of story points that were completed in a given month, story points associated to backlog work items remaining at the end of a month, and a snapshot of the cumulative number of story points completed up to a particular month.

  The nodes in the line graphs denote individual months and you can click on a node to drill down and display only relevant data in the subsequent sections.

Business Value Burn up

The Business Value Burn Up Chart provides information about the progress of a project over time with respect to Business Value associated with Work Items. You can view the monthly trend of completed and backlog business Value points that helps you understand the amount of work that was accomplished and if the project is on track to be completed.

The Business Value Burn up chapter contains the following sections:

• Monthly Business Value Burn Up Chart: Displays three line graphs to indicate the total business value points that were achieved in a given month, business value points associated to backlog work items remaining at the end of a month, and a snapshot of the cumulative business value points completed up to a particular month.

  The nodes in the line graphs denote individual months and you can click on a node to drill down and display only relevant data in the subsequent sections.

• Business Value Backlog: Displays details about the business value associated with backlog work items, along with the priority and a summary of the work item.
• Completed Business Value: Displays details about the business value associated with completed work items, along with the priority and a summary of the work item.
